While Lee min Ho has expressed interest in another drama role to follow his film debut in “Gangnam Blues,” he has also been offered a film role in China.
Reportedly one of China”s most promising young actresses Zhang Ziyi called him about appearing in a Chinese film titled “Eternal Doll.” The film is a mystery thriller based on a Korean novel and the action takes place in Korea, Japan and China.
That film offer was confirmed by his agency Starhaus Entertainment and the agency says he is considering it.
“It”s true that Lee Min Ho received a call from Zhang Ziyi. He is continuing to monitor the project with interest,” said the Starhaus Entertainment representative. “As it”s based on a Korean novel, he believes that there would be some significance in participating in the film.”
But the script is not yet finished and the quality of the script will be a deciding factor.
“We need a more concrete idea of the script and schedule before he can commit to anything. Lee Min Ho is considering a variety of dramas and movies for this year.”
If Lee Min Ho does agree to appear in a Chinese film or drama, he will be in good company. Song Seung Hoon, Kim Tae Hee, Rain, Song Hye Kyo, Kim So Eun and Kim Bum are but a few of the Korean actors who recently appeared in Chinese productions. The number continues to escalate as more Chinese viewers become familiar with Korean productions and Hallyu stars.
Lee Min Ho is certainly among the most popular Hallyu stars in China. He is so popular that his recent Lunar New Year”s concert recorded the highest viewer ratings among China”s New Year”s special broadcasts. After he made his appearance viewership ratings went up by 17 percent.
At the time Starhaus Entertainment commented that when you consider China”s population of 1.4 billion people even a 0.1 percent jump in ratings is staggering.
Lee Min Ho is also the most-followed star on China”s social media platform Weibo. He had over 25 million followers as of Dec. 2014. That means he surpassed singer Psy as the most popular Korean celebrity.
Appearing in a Chinese film could only add to his popularity there. But then every k-drama he has appeared in has been a big hit. After “Boys Over Flowers,” “City Hunter” and “The Heirs,” his k-drama fans are also eager to see him on the small screen. Via ohupic
