“Arang and the Magistrate” star Lee Jun Ki received a love-call for the role of a a scholarly vampire in “The Scholar Who Walks At Night.”
On March 17, Lee Jun Ki’s agency, Namoo Actors confirmed that the 32-year-old actor was offered the role and is considering it.
Lee Jun Ki has experienced previous success in historical dramas as he appeared in “Arang and the Magistrate,” “Iljimae” and “The Joseon Gunman.”
Lee Jun Ki is the third actor who has been up for the part, as Park Hae Jin was also considered at one point.
The drama “Scholar Who Walks The Night” is adapted from a manhwa by Jo Joo Hee and Han Seung Hee. And the drama adaptation promises to mix a few k-drama genres. Since the story is set in the Joseon era, it will be a historical drama. But there’s also a fantasy element. There are vampires, who live among humans. And there’s also a girl who disguises herself as a boy.
Actress Han Groo is considering the role of a girl whose aristocratic family was falsely charged with conspiracy. As a result of the false charges they become poor and she’s forced to do what she can to help them.
On March 7 Han Groo’s agency, Climax Entertainment, told the Korean publication TV Daily that she received an offer to appear in the drama but she’s not yet confirmed.
“We received a couple of offers besides ‘Scholar Who Walks The Night’ and are discussing them,’ said her representatives.
Her last dramas were “Marriage, Not Dating” and “One Warm Word.”
If the 22-year-old actress does sign on for “Scholar Who Walks The Night” she will play a girl who dresses up as a male bookseller. That’s when she meets a scholar who turns out to be a vampire. They are both not who they appear to be. And he must be more attractive than scary because she falls in love with him.
Jang Hyun Joo, who wrote the classic k-drama “Coffee Prince,” has written “Scholar Who Walks The Night.” Director Lee Sung Joon has impressive credentials when it comes to historical dramas. Lee Sung Joon was the second director on the critically-acclaimed drama “Empress Ki” and on Kim Soo Hyun’s previous historical drama “The Moon Embracing The Sun.” The drama is due to air in July.
